Job Title: Data Center Engineer – Level 1

Department: IT Infrastructure / Data Center Operations

Location: [Specify – e.g., Onsite Bank Data Center / Regional DC]

Industry: BFSI (Banking, Financial Services Insurance)

Role Summary

The Level 1 Data Center Engineer will be responsible for performing day-to-day data center operational activities, including preventive maintenance, physical installation, cabling, and providing console access for network and server devices. The role involves first-level troubleshooting and coordination for incidents related to hardware, network interfaces, and device connectivity within the BFSI data center environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and scheduled maintenance activities for network, server, and storage devices as per the maintenance calendar.
  • Handle rack mounting, de-racking, and patch cabling for routers, switches, firewalls, servers, and other DC equipment.
  • Provide console access to remote teams for troubleshooting or configuration support.
  • Monitor DC environment parameters such as power, temperature, and connectivity; escalate anomalies as per process.
  • Work on incident and task tickets related to device down, link down, or interface issues through ITSM tools (ServiceNow / Remedy / etc.).
  • Perform first-level checks and troubleshooting for devices and coordinate with Level 2/3 teams or OEMs for resolution.
  • Maintain asset and inventory records of all equipment, patch panels, and cabling layouts.
  • Support during change management activities, including patching, upgrades, and configuration updates.
  • Ensure compliance with BFSI data center security and operational standards.
  • Participate in regular audits and maintain proper documentation for all operational activities.

Required Skills Qualifications:

  • Education: Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Electronics, IT, or Computer Science.

  • Certifications: Basic CCNA certification (preferred) or equivalent networking knowledge.

  • Experience: 1–3 years of experience in Data Center or IT Infrastructure operations, preferably in BFSI or managed services environment.

  • Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of network fundamentals (LAN/WAN, VLANs, IP addressing).

  • Experience in physical infrastructure handling – rack mounting, cabling, labeling, and documentation.

  • Familiarity with ITSM ticketing tools.

  • Basic understanding of server, storage, and power systems in data centers.

  • Soft Skills:

  • Strong communication and coordination skills.

  • Ability to follow process and adhere to SLA timelines.

  • Willingness to work in rotational shifts and during planned maintenance windows.

Reporting To: Data Center Operations Manager / Service Operations Lead

Work Environment

  • Onsite presence at Bank Data Center(s).
  • Coordination with Network, Server, and OEM vendor teams.
  • Strict adherence to BFSI compliance and security protocols.
