About the role

Job Summary

Operates machines and production equipment safely and efficiently in a manufacturing environment to meet quality, productivity, delivery, and safety requirements. Works with limited guidance while following standard operating procedures, maintaining equipment, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and contributing to a collaborative team environment.

Key Responsibilities

Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE)

  • Follow all Cummins Health, Safety, and Environmental policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

  • Immediately stop work and report unsafe conditions, major injury hazards, incidents, illnesses, and near misses.

  • Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) and promote a culture of safety.

  • Identify and correct hazards within area of responsibility and capability.

  • Support environmental sustainability initiatives by minimizing the environmental impact of work activities.

  • Participate in required HSE training programs and safety improvement initiatives.

  • Demonstrate accountability for personal safety and the safety of team members.

Quality

  • Adhere to standard work instructions, process documentation, and quality procedures.

  • Apply quality tools and methodologies, including Statistical Process Control (SPC), Poka-Yoke, and visual management standards.

  • Perform quality inspections and verify products meet specifications and customer requirements.

  • Identify, segregate, and control non-conforming materials.

  • Raise quality concerns promptly to minimize product defects, rework, scrap, and customer impact.

  • Support continuous improvement efforts to enhance product quality and process effectiveness.

Production & Delivery

  • Operate manual and automated manufacturing equipment to produce and assemble components according to specifications.

  • Achieve daily production targets, cycle time requirements, and established engineering standards.

  • Demonstrate competency in machine operation, manufacturing processes, and standard work practices.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment through routine housekeeping activities.

  • Perform basic operator care, preventive maintenance, and equipment cleaning activities.

  • Work collaboratively with maintenance technicians, skilled trades, and support teams to identify equipment issues and support repairs.

  • Remain flexible and perform additional duties as required to support production schedules and business needs.

Teamwork & Continuous Improvement

  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and cross-functional support teams.

  • Participate actively in team meetings, training programs, and development activities.

  • Contribute ideas and support initiatives focused on improving safety, quality, productivity, material flow, and operational efficiency.

  • Demonstrate teamwork, collaboration, and a commitment to Cummins values.

  • Continuously develop skills and knowledge to support business and operational requirements.

Competencies:

Minimum Education

  • High School Diploma, ITI, Vocational Certification, Diploma, or equivalent technical qualification required.

Preferred Education

  • Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Production Engineering, or a related technical field preferred.

Skills

  • Machine operation and equipment handling.

  • Manufacturing and assembly processes.

  • Understanding of quality systems and inspection methods.

  • Statistical Process Control (SPC) awareness.

  • Knowledge of Poka-Yoke and visual management practices.

  • Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to read and follow work instructions and process documentation.

Experience

Required

  • Experience operating manufacturing equipment, machinery, or production systems in an industrial environment.

  • Experience following standard operating procedures, work instructions, and safety requirements.

  • Experience working within quality and productivity targets.

Preferred

  • Experience in a high-volume manufacturing or assembly environment.

  • Exposure to automated production equipment and manufacturing systems.

  • Experience with quality inspection processes and quality management tools.

  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance and operator care activities.

  • Experience participating in continuous improvement initiatives such as Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, or related operational excellence programs.
