About the role

Job Summary

Responsible for performing highly specialized accounting work required to maintain the department’s general ledger. Performs detailed financial analysis of the department’s chart of accounts and financial statements by identifying and analyzing unusual variances.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyzes, records and reports accounting transactions in a timely manner.

  • Prepares general ledger entries and account reconciliations. Prepares balance sheet and profit and loss statements, consolidated financial statements, and other accounting schedules and reports.

  • Responds to inquiries received from management, internal and external auditors, Sarbanes-Oxley audit group and others regarding financial results, special reporting requests, etc.

  • Reviews existing internal controls on a regular basis and develops new internal controls as necessary.

  • Analyzes current procedures and recommends changes to develop and implement best practice accounting procedures.

  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.

It is also an exciting time to join Cummins. The Finance function is currently undergoing significant transformation as we transition from legacy ERP systems to a global SAP platform. While supporting core accounting and reporting activities, you will also have the opportunity to contribute to initiatives that strengthen processes, controls, and reporting capabilities as part of this SAP transformation program.

We are seeking an experienced Financial Accountant to join our Finance team based at our Scoresby office on a 12-month fixed-term contract .

This is an exciting opportunity to deliver trusted financial outcomes while partnering with key operational and Finance stakeholders across the business.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

Financial Reporting

  • Prepare and review general ledger entries, account reconciliations, and accounting schedules to support management reporting, business performance reviews, and decision-making.

  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, maintaining the integrity and reliability of financial information for management reporting and business decision-making.

Providing financial insight and business partnering

  • Conduct financial and variance analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, providing insights that support informed business decisions and operational performance.

  • Partner with stakeholders across Finance, Operations and Sales to provide financial guidance, support reporting and compliance requirements, investigate issues, and drive continuous improvement in financial processes and business performance.

Strengthening controls and audit readiness

  • Maintain strong financial controls and governance practices by supporting internal and external audit requirements, ensuring compliance with SOX controls and company policies, and maintaining accurate process documentation to support an effective and compliant control environment.

  • Drive process and control improvements that strengthen governance, compliance, and risk management.

Knowledge Management & Training

  • Maintain process documentation and support the training and development of new team members to ensure consistency and continuity across finance activities.

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with CPA, CA, or equivalent professional qualification.

  • Experience in manufacturing, engineering, industrial, or service environments.

  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, including US GAAP, internal controls, and financial compliance requirements.

  • Exposure to SAP S/4HANA, SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), Oracle Business Intelligence, Oracle Financials/ERP is preferred.

  • Ability to analyse financial data, investigate variances, and communicate insights effectively to both Finance and non-finance stakeholders.

  • Experience supporting process improvements, strengthening controls, and contributing to business transformation initiatives.

  • An inquisitive, detail-oriented, and can-do attitude, with the ability to work independently, adapt to change, and manage competing priorities.
