Senior Engineer
Trane Technologies
About the role
Summary
The Modeling & Simulation team is seeking a highly skilled and collaborative Senior Engineer – Acoustics to lead advanced predictive modeling efforts. In this role, you will apply state-of-the-art numerical methodologies to solve complex noise and vibration challenges across our diverse product portfolios.
The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise spanning both vibro-acoustics and aero-acoustics. This role requires a unique balance of rigorous engineering execution alongside a global perspective—focusing on commonizing acoustic methodologies and simulation standards across different regional engineering teams to meet varying regional customer and regulatory requirements.
.
Key Responsibilities
- Advanced Modeling & Simulation: Develop, validate, and execute high-fidelity numerical models to predict and optimize the acoustic performance of HVAC systems, transport refrigeration units, and components (such as compressors, fans, structures, and air handlers).
ü Aero-Acoustics & Fluid-Structure Interaction: Conduct Computational Aero-Acoustics (CAA) simulations to predict flow-induced noise, fan noise, and turbulence-driven acoustic phenomena.
ü Vibro-Acoustics & Structural Dynamics: Analyze structural-acoustic coupling, structure-borne noise transmission, and vibration propagation using Finite Element Method (FEM) and Boundary Element Method (BEM) solvers.
ü Regional Commonization & Standards: Champion efforts to standardize and commonize acoustics simulation methodologies globally. Collaborate with international design centers to harmonize workflows while addressing varying regional regulations and market requirements.
ü Experimental Correlation: Collaborate closely with physical testing laboratories to design validation tests, analyze dynamic measurement data (sound power, vibration, modal testing), and correlate experimental results with simulation models.
ü Design Optimization: Partner with product development teams to provide actionable, physics-based design recommendations early in the development cycle to reduce noise and enhance sound quality.
ü Innovation: Keep abreast of emerging simulation technologies, and drive continuous improvement in simulation capability and speed.
Required Qualifications
