About the role
What you will do
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of software engineers focused on embedded controls development.
- Drive planning, prioritization, and execution of software deliverables across multiple projects and product initiatives.
- Provide technical leadership in software architecture, design, coding, debugging, integration, and validation activities.
- Guide design reviews, code reviews, and technical decision-making to ensure robust and maintainable solutions.
- Partner with cross-functional engineering and business teams to align technical execution with product requirements, quality expectations, cost targets, and project timelines.
- Support definition of project scope, schedules, resource needs, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Drive issue resolution through structured problem-solving, root cause analysis, and corrective action.
- Promote best practices in software development, coding standards, documentation, version control, and defect management.
- Support continuous improvement in development processes, software quality, team effectiveness, and delivery performance.
- Build organizational capability through performance management, coaching, feedback, and development planning.
- Ensure compliance with applicable development processes, quality requirements, cybersecurity expectations, and regulatory standards.
What you will bring:

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 15+ years of experience in embedded software or controls software development.
- Strong programming experience in C/C++ and Rust.
- Experience with embedded systems development, troubleshooting, and debugging.
- Experience with embedded communication protocols such as CAN, UART, SPI, I2C, Modbus, BACnet, or similar.
- Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams, major technical workstreams, or complex software projects.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams and influence technical direction.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct people leadership or engineering management experience.
- Experience in HVAC controls, building automation, industrial automation, or related embedded product environments.
- Familiarity with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and microcontroller-based software development.
- Experience with software architecture, control algorithm implementation, and hardware/software integration.
- Knowledge of unit testing, integration testing, and system validation practices.
- Experience with agile development methodologies, continuous integration, and modern software development tools.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity requirements for connected embedded devices.
- Master’s degree in a related technical or business discipline.
