Data Center Project Manager
Microsoft (Datacenters)
About the role
End-to-End IT Project Delivery Create, manage, and communicate end-to-end project plans for large-scale datacenter IT infrastructure projects. Manage project scope, schedules, milestones, budgets, resources, dependencies, risks, issues, changes, quality requirements, acceptance criteria, and closure. Deliver projects involving: Large-scale server deployment Enterprise and datacenter network infrastructure implementation Datacenter racks and enclosures Storage and physical IT infrastructure Structured copper and fiber-optic cabling Capacity expansion and infrastructure upgrades Equipment migrations and technology refreshes Ensure projects are completed safely, securely, on time, within approved scope and budget, and with the required level of quality. Ensure completed projects meet agreed acceptance criteria and are successfully handed over to the responsible operations teams. Coordinate planned activities, including project execution, infrastructure deployment, upgrades, migrations, technology refreshes, testing, and preventive maintenance affecting datacenter IT systems and infrastructure. Develop and validate implementation plans, Methods of Procedure, risk assessments, maintenance windows, technical dependencies, communication plans, contingency measures, and rollback or recovery arrangements before execution. Coordinate technical dependencies involving servers, storage, network equipment, racks, structured cabling, fiber-optic infrastructure, logistics, assets, power, cooling, security, access, and operational readiness. Work with Engineering, Datacenter Operations, Deployment, Network, Critical Environment, Security, Logistics, Supply Chain, Asset Management, DC Build Managers, and regional infrastructure teams to assess potential impacts on the IT production environment. Ensure appropriate mitigation and operational controls are established to prevent or minimize: Coordinate implementation activities within live, production, or mission-critical datacenter environments and monitor execution against the approved plan. Ensure project and preventive maintenance activities follow approved designs, Methods of Procedure, change controls, safety requirements, security controls, quality standards, and operational requirements. Apply Stop Work Authority and escalate when site conditions, technical dependencies, safety controls, or execution activities deviate from the approved plan or create unacceptable risk to production services. Ensure post-implementation validation, service-health checks, issue resolution, operational handover, documentation, and formal closure are completed. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, internal stakeholders, suppliers, service partners, contractors, landlords, and colocation providers. Manage supplier and contractor scope, schedules, deliverables, resources, quality, safety, documentation, and corrective actions. Provide clear and timely project updates covering: Ensure appropriate risk assessments, work controls, change approvals, implementation plans, testing requirements, and rollback or recovery arrangements are established before execution. Support troubleshooting, incident response, root-cause analysis, recovery planning, and corrective actions associated with project activities. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Telecommunications, Project Management, or a related technical discipline. 8+ years of relevant industry experience, including demonstrated direct experience managing and successfully delivering large-scale or complex IT system and infrastructure projects. Demonstrated project-delivery experience involving one or more of the following: Large-scale datacenter server deployment Enterprise or datacenter network infrastructure implementation Datacenter rack, enclosure, and physical IT infrastructure deployment Structured copper and fiber-optic cabling implementation Enterprise computing, storage, or cloud-infrastructure deployment IT infrastructure expansion, migration, consolidation, or technology refresh Infrastructure and equipment decommissioning Datacenter capacity onboarding and operationalization Demonstrated experience managing end-to-end project scope, schedules, milestones, budgets, resources, dependencies, risks, issues, changes, quality, acceptance, operational handover, and closure. Strong working knowledge of physical IT infrastructure, including servers, storage systems, network equipment, racks and enclosures, capacity, structured cabling, fiber-optic infrastructure, and related datacenter systems. Demonstrated experience planning and managing project execution, infrastructure changes, and preventive maintenance activities within live IT production or mission-critical environments. Experience establishing risk assessments, change controls, impact-mitigation plans, contingency measures, and rollback or recovery arrangements to prevent or minimize service interruption. Experience coordinating delivery across technical teams, operations teams, suppliers, service partners, contractors, and regional or global stakeholders. Ability to prioritize and execute project activities in dynamic, high-pressure, production, mission-critical, or 24x7 datacenter environments. Strong stakeholder-management, supplier-management, problem-solving, escalation, and decision-making skills.
